Malegaon Blasts: Court Notice To Centre On Prosecutor Alleging Pressure

New Delhi:  The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Centre, the National Investigation Agency and the Maharashtra government seeking their responses on the allegations of erstwhile Special Public Prosecutor in the Malegaon blasts case, Rohini Salian, who has said that she was asked to “go soft” on the accused.

Ms Salian had also alleged that an NIA officer had told her that she would be removed from the anti-terror agency’s panel of lawyers; she is no longer part of the panel.

The court was today hearing petitions filed by a victim of the Malegaon blast and by activist Harsh Mander that alleged that the Centre and the Maharashtra government pressured Ms Salian.

The petitions accuse the NDA government of exerting “pressure” on the prosecutor. They also allege that this was being done “presumably under the instructions from their political masters”.

The petitions want the court to order a Special Investigating Team of the CBI to probe the allegations.
