Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth left his Poes Garden residence in Chennai this morning to attend the oath ceremony of J Jayalalithaa as chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
Rajnikanth is the neighbour of Ms Jayalalithaa, who left her residence a little later, at 10.37 am. She took oath at 11 am along with 28 minsters in the centenary hall of the Madras University.
The AIADMK leader took oath as chief minister for the fifth time today. She had stepped down for a brief period in her second term too and had to be sworn in again.
She was in the middle of her third term, when a Bangalore court convicted her in September last year in a corruption case and she had to resign.
Earlier this month, the Karnataka High Court quashed her conviction and acquitted her of corruption charges, clearing the way for her return as chief minister.
